GLASS LAMINATING MACHINE: LMX2 1830 SERIES

The JG-LMX2_1830 series are professional glass laminating machines for use without an autoclave system. The JG-LMX series can laminate EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), SENTRYGLAS® (SGP), and PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral).

The JG-LMX2_1830 is composed of two independent convection heating chambers, a PLC computer for formulae entry, a control cabinet, 4 heating tables with vacuum bladders, an elevator for table lifting/lowering and ingress/egress into and out of the oven, a table cooling section, hydraulic pump, and vacuum pump.

Each heating convection chamber can accepts two laminating table trays. Each laminating tray has an available laminating area of 72”X120”. The computer controlled heating chambers can each run independent heating formulae. This option is very useful for production runs that require different heating formulae due to varying glass composition (i.e., laminating ¼”+ ¼” vs. 3/8”+3/8” or due to use of different interlayer’s). In the aforementioned example, two heating trays can be running one cycle and the other two trays can run a different cycle concurrently. The laminating process with use of the JG-LMX series works as follows: Glass is first seamed, cleaned, and assembled in sandwich form with the glass as the outer shell and the PVB, SENTRYGLAS®, or EVA film (or EVA+interlayer+EVA) constituting the inner layer(s) of the glass sandwich. The glass sandwich is positioned on the heating tables and the vacuum is drawn. The movable hearth is positioned over the production table and the heating process is initiated. Heating cycles may last anywhere from 60min – 190min depending on the interlayer, glass thickness, and/or type and thickness of interlayer film(s) used. After the heating cycles, the laminated glass is cooled..

Lamination work may be done for an array of decorative glass, ballistic, or security applications such as for handrails, pointed support walls, and canopies. The PVB, SENTRYGLAS®, or EVA films may each be layered to its own type to achieve desired thickness of the laminate. In addition, decorative interlayers such as fabrics, rice paper, film, and PET may be used with EVA to achieve a desired effect. *Note: The use of PVB requires additional material handling equipment prior to the actual laminating process.

What is EVA?

Ethylene Vinyl Acetate is an interlayer used for laminating glass
EVA has been around for years and is used extensively in Europe and Asia
EVA adhesion to glass occurs at lower temperatures and pressures than traditional PVB film
EVA film is less expensive and easier to handle than PVB film
EVA can be used with other interlayers such as fabrics, rice paper, glow in the dark film, and others.
EVA also comes in comes in varying colors
Today’s EVA films provide optical quality that can rival PVB

What is PVB?

PVB stands for Polyvinyl butyral and is an inter-layer used for laminating glass
PVB has been the preferred inter-layer used in laminating glass. The use of PVB has traditionally required the use of a prepressing machine and autoclave system often placing the process beyond a small to medium shops fabrication budget.
PVB can now be laminated with our non autoclave glass laminating machines.
PVB does require special storage climate controlled conditions.

What is SGP?

SGP stands for SentryGlassPlus and is made by DuPont
SGP is designed for today’s architectural needs and is an excellent choice for handrails and staircase applications
SGP can be effectively processed in our non autoclave glass laminating machine.
SGP offers five times the tear strength 100 times the rigidity of conventional PVB interlayers.
SGP can be difficult to trim and requires special climate controlled storage.
SGP cannot be used with other interlayers
